Career Roadmap

Each rung, what the job actually is, and the reason people stop at it. Compensation is a band with the date it was gathered.

  1. Operations analyst

    Typically 2 to 4 years

    You run cargoes. Nominations, laytime, documents, and the phone calls when a vessel is late. The least glamorous seat on the floor and the one that teaches the business fastest.

    SGD 70,000 to 110,000 · gathered January 2026 · Base plus a modest discretionary bonus.

  2. Trading analyst

    Typically 2 to 3 years

    You support a book. Curve maintenance, position reporting, and the analysis a trader does not have time to do. You see every trade and are responsible for none of them.

  3. Junior trader

    Typically 2 to 4 years

    A small book, tight limits, and someone watching. The first seat where your decisions cost money, and the first where compensation starts tracking results rather than title.

  4. Trader

    Typically 4 or more years

    Your own book, your own limits, and a number you are measured against. The job is now as much about funding, counterparties and credit as it is about price.

  5. Desk head

    Typically 5 or more years

    You allocate limits, hire, and answer for other people’s positions. Most of the day is no longer trading, which is the part nobody warns you about.
